Lightweight packaging
Lightweight packaging only includes packaging made of plastic or composite material, polystyrene, wood, textile material and ceramic.
This type of packaging belongs in the collection container with the yellow lid and the label “Packaging made of plastic or composite material” or – if available – in the “Yellow Bag”.
The following can be put in the collection container:
- non-returnable drinks bottles
- cleaning agent and cosmetics bottles, plastic canisters
- plastic bottles, tubes (e.g. for ketchup, oil, etc.)
- plastic bags, nets (e.g. shopping bags)
- packaging films (e.g. of electrical appliances)
- plastic containers, plastic pots (e.g. yoghurt pots), egg boxes made of plastic, plastic lids and caps/tops
- vacuum packaging, coated deep-freeze packaging
- fruit, vegetable and meat trays
- polystyrene packaging
- wooden crates, jute bags
- empty medicine packaging made of plastic
- blister packaging (e.g. tablet packaging for pushing out the tablets)
- cosmetics pots made of ceramic
- milk and drinks cartons (Tetrapack)
- non-returnable crockery
The following must not be put in the collection container:
- X-ray images
- toys
- toys, electrically powered
- plastic tableware (e.g. bowls, pots – unless it is single-use tableware)
- floor coverings and carpets
- installation pipes, garden hoses, etc.
- flower pots (unless it is single-use packaging)
- foamed materials (mattresses, cushions)
- polystyrene parts (small parts)
- foils (e.g. agricultural and cover sheeting)
- wood
- textiles
- plastic buckets (unless they are single-use packaging)
- drinks crates, plastic pallets (should be returned to the shop)
Tips & info:
Separate correctly:
- Lightweight packaging may only be placed in the collection container without any residues (i.e. free of drops and trickles, brushed clean, scraped clean.
- Do not under any circumstances put packaging of engine or gear oils in the collection container, even if they are made of plastic – they are hazardous waste and should be returned to the shop or the hazardous waste collection point!
- Put plastic packaging in a crushed state in the collection container where possible – this saves space.
Tips for separating waste:
- Purchase products in multi-use packaging (returnable bottles, etc.) as much as possible.
- Do not put the cap on drinks bottles until they have been crushed – this makes them stay really flat!
- Use the bending trick to save space, i.e. press PET bottles in the middle of the bottle and then fold the base over.
- Use plastic bags several times or even better cloth bags or a shopping basket for your shopping.

Who can request a collection container?
- no application is required as collection containers are installed on public land.
- installation in residential areas; in this case, an application can be made by the property owner or the authorised facility management, but there is no entitlement to the installation of containers.
Where is a collection container installed?
- on public land over a wide area;
- in the case of residential areas, in the residential area; in the inner city area also in buildings or inner courtyards
