Sewer construction planning

We look after the 846-kilometre-long public sewer network in Graz. The new constructions of sewers as well as the refurbishment, maintenance and cleaning of the sewers are carried out by Holding Graz Water Management division.

These are our tasks:

  • We deal with the project handling of new sewer constructions and refurbishments of public sewers and in the process bring together the sub-areas of sewer cadaster, construction and hydraulic/GIS.
  • Our employees are responsible for the handling of sewer construction projects.
  • We coordinate and monitor with the involvement of civil engineers the planning and execution of the construction projects assigned to them.
  • In the course of these activities, citizen information events, property use and other construction-related negotiations are also carried out.

Sewer planning

The sewer planning deals with all planning steps which are necessary both for new sewer constructions and for refurbishment projects. These include requirements analyses, variant tests, drainage concepts, general projects, submission and implementation planning, detailed planning as well as planning specifications and accompanying control with external sewer planning.

Hydraulic and hydrology

In the sewers the waste water flows to the sewage treatment plant where it is cleaned. When it rains, the conditions in the sewers change abruptly and a substantially increased volume of water has to be carried away.

A system of rain measurement points and measurement points in the sewer has been set up in the sewer system in Graz and the drainage processes are simulated by means of the latest computational models. The necessary cross-sections of new sewers are thus determined and weak points in the sewer network localised.

These computational models form the basis for a future sewer network control and management.
