Record figures: KlimaTicket continues to boom

Unlimited travel on public transport throughout Styria: since 2022, this has been possible at low cost with the regional KlimaTicket. A look at the current sales figures from Holding Graz shows that this inexpensive offer, combined with the environmental aspect, is being used extensively and that the number of customers is continuing to rise every year.
At the same time, the figures confirm the continuing trend towards long-term tickets in public transport: in 2025, Holding Graz sold a total of 93,084 KlimaTickets, more than ever before. Compared to 2024, with 90,136 tickets sold, this represents an increase of 3.3 per cent. The high demand is particularly evident in the months with the strongest sales: the highest sales figures in 2025 were achieved in September with 12,513 tickets, in October with 10,968 tickets and in January with 9,967 tickets. Sales figures remained at a consistently high level in the other months as well.
Since 2023, the City of Graz has been subsidising the KlimaTicket Steiermark Classic Graz, as well as the Youth/Senior/Special versions, with €100 or €75 for all persons whose main residence is in Graz. Deputy Mayor Judith Schwentner sees the consistently high sales figures as confirmation that the city is on the right track: ‘If the offer is right, people are happy to switch. That’s why the city supports all those who want to use the KlimaTicket out of conviction. The ticket fits into people’s everyday lives, saves money and time, and makes public transport the easy first choice.’
The KlimaTicket variants developed particularly positively: The Senior variant (+16.9 per cent), the Special Graz variant (+15.4 per cent) and the Youth variant (+8.2 per cent) were in particularly high demand compared to the previous year. Overall, revenue from the sale of KlimaTickets rose to around 43.7 million euros in the previous year, which corresponds to an increase in revenue of 7.9 per cent compared to 2024.
Holding Graz CEO Gert Heigl also sees this as the result of Holding Graz’s consistent sales strategy, alongside ongoing optimisation of its services: “The success of KlimaTicket sales figures shows that we at Holding Graz are able to continuously adapt our services to the needs of the people of Graz. In addition to attractive public transport services, we are investing specifically in the expansion of sales channels, particularly in the digital sector. This underlines Holding Graz’s claim to be a modern service provider.”
Holding Graz Executive Director Mark Perz also sees the continuous expansion of the range of services for passengers as a factor in the ongoing success of long-term tickets: “We are constantly investing in the quality and attractiveness of public transport. Operational expansions such as the city centre relief project and the double-track expansion of line 1, new vehicles such as the modern Flexity trams that will be operating in Graz this year, and the gradual conversion of the bus fleet to alternative drive technologies are noticeably improving the service for our passengers and making public transport in Graz even more efficient.”
There is a clear trend within Holding Graz with regard to distribution systems: most tickets (in terms of number) are sold via Holding Graz ticket machines, while at the same time, the use of online purchasing options via the free ‘GrazMobil’ app is increasing, with around a quarter of public transport tickets already being sold this way. Digital sales channels are therefore becoming increasingly important and already rank second in terms of sales for Holding Graz’s distribution systems.
